Hey, everybody,
For the third straight year, I'm planning on going on the North Dakota Mission Trip through Franciscan University of Steubenville. We will be going to Turtle Mountain Reservation, which is an Ojibwe (Chippewa) reservation. The poverty there is extreme- I believe unemployment's over 50% when the economy's GOOD. There are high rates of alcoholism and abuse. However, they are the kindest, most welcoming people I have met. I have made many good friends through these mission trips (and helping out with their summer camp last year) and it is truly where my heart lies. The Holy Spirit is truly at work there. While the population is mostly Catholic, many do not practice their faith (although all are spiritual in some sense.) We go to catechize and more importantly to show them the love of Christ. We work with the SOLT community (Fr. Corapi's order) to make a difference in their lives. We do things such as jail and nursing home ministries, helping with the school, talks and skits for the youth, as well as whatever manual labor needs to be done.
Please help in whatever way you can. Even if you can only give $5, that's fine; more importantly, I ask for your prayers. You can go to this link to donate, and be sure to specify "North Dakota" under Designation. Thanks and God bless!
